OBITUARY:
James and Rachel came, with their family, to Jasper County, Missouri about 1870 and purchased 40 acres of land from the goverment, Bureau of Land Management document #30753, dated January 15, 1872. I think it was south of Carthage, Missouri. They lived there until about 1890 when they came to Newton County and lived near the Silver Noon community between Neosho and Diamond. He was listed in the 1880 Missouri Census as a Blacksmith. J. W. (Bill) and John Casey Waggoner always did their own horse shoeing, and another grandson, John Nalley had a blacksmith shop in Neosho for many years. It was told that Rachel was an herb doctor, and there are various recipes for ointments and cough medicines made from plants and herbs. Rachel died in 1902.
