He was born July 18, 1918, in Geneva County, Ala., and had been a resident of Bay County, Fla., since 1919. He retired from International Paper Co. in August 1977, after 37 years as manager of finance and administrative services. He was a longtime member and deacon at Northside Baptist Church. He also was a member and past master of Acme Masonic Lodge 222. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl Martin Stanley; and son, Bill Stanley. He is survived by two sons, Tom Stanley and wife, Geri, and Martin Stanley and wife, Betty, all of Panama City; four grandchildren, Melissa Anderson, Dan Stanley, Daniel Strickland and Dallas Strickland; and six great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 3, 2008, at Evergreen Memorial Gardens with Dr. Jerry Moore officiating.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Northside Baptist Church Building Fund in memory of Barney Stanley.
