James Sherman Burnett, 77, of Route 6, Huntsville, died Jan. 7 in the Madison County Hospital. Born Dec. 29, 1894, in Madison County, he was the son of J.K.P. and Desta Smith Burnett. He was a retired farmer and a member of the Church of Christ.

Survivors include the widow, Mary Baker Burnett of the home; seven sons, James A. of Route 4, Huntsville, Paul of Springdale, Karl of Pueblo, Colo., Franklin of Huntsville, Norris of Route 2, Elkins, Norman of Route 7, Fayetteville and Sherman Kent of Newark, Ohio; three daughters, Mrs. Geraldine Gooch of Okatah, Okla., Mrs. Erma Jean Owens of Fullerton, Calif., and Mrs. Fay Tillery of Route 1, Huntsville.

He is also survived by four sisters, Mrs. Abby Anderson of Witter, Mrs. Emma Eddy of Huntsville, Mrs. Desta Ogden of Stilwell, Okla., and Mrs. Florence Barker of Huntsville; 29 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services were held Monday, Jan. 10, at 1 p.m. in the Huntsville Church of Christ, Pastor Merritt Youngblood officiating. Burial was in the Witter Cemetery under the direction of the Brashears Funeral Home.
