Lydia A. Allen, wife of P .B. Allen of Jackson Township, a well Known resident of Shelby County, died at her home three miles east of Anna September 14, 1906. She was born in Franklin Township July 9, 1830 and was married to Philemon B. Allen November 11, 1847. Her maiden name was Coleman. Of this union was born ten children, seven daughters and three sons, of whom three daughters have preceded her to the great beyond.
She leaves her aged companion, two sisters and two brothers, four daughters, three sons, forty-eight grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. She was a kind affectionate mother and a faithful wife.
She united with the M. E. Church in early life and and she was a member until about five years ago with the U. B. church at North Salem.
She had been afflicted with paralysis for about eight years, which caused her death. She bore her suffering patiently until the end.
The funeral was held at North Salem Wednesday, September 26, conducted by Rev. Harvey of Quincy. Interment at Port Jefferson Cemetery.
