Ernie was the son of the late Leland and Florence Robinson Ebersole, and had been a resident of Chesterville since 1942.

He was a member of Ches-terville United Methodist Church, where he taught Sunday school, held various offices within the church and was a lay speaker. Ernie's faith and listening abilities was an inspiration to many of his fiends.

He was Past Master of Chester Lodge 238 F&AM and Past Patron of Evelyn Chapter 146, Order of Eastern Star. He was a 50-year member of Wayne Grange.

Ernie retired as superintendent of the Ohio Department of Transportation in Morrow County.

Ernie was a graduate of Chesterville High School in 1956 where he played football. After graduation he volunteered as official timer for football and official scorekeeper for basketball at Chesterville High School and Highland High School for many years. He coached Little League Baseball.

Ernie very seldom missed any sporting event that his son or grandsons participated in and in later years became "Grandpa" to everyone at these events.

A love of harness horse racing developed with his father and continues through his son and grandsons.

Ernie's love for nature was evident through his unique gardens and creative woodworking. One of his favorite pastimes would be watching birds, squirrels, deer and other creatures in God's world.

A storyteller, Ernie could tell a story on any subject at anytime. His life was graced with a strong love for family, God and friends.

On Aug. 24, 1957, he married his childhood sweetheart, Patricia (Smith), whom he met in first grade at Chesterville School who survives along with his son and daughter-in-law, Jeffrey and Linda Ebersole of Chesterville; grandsons, Luke C. Ebersole and Logan C. Ebersole; brothers and sisters-in-law, Lloyd and Betty Lou Ebersole of Chesterville, Richard and Judy Ebersole of Fredericktown and Robert and Betty Ebersole of Cochran, Ga.; and sisters, Lillian Lower of Mount Vernon, Aileen Bishop of Fredericktown, Ruth Reeder of Butler, Bonnie Hobson of Ashland; his mother-in-law, Billie Smith of Chesterville; and many nephews and nieces who called him "Uncle Ernie. "

Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, W. Lewis Ebersole; sister, Vivian Morris; and father-in-law, Earl J. Smith.
