Edith Elizabeth Best Christy, a long-time resident of the Odessa area, died on December 29, 1961, at the Warrensburg Medical Center. She was 84 years old. Funeral services were held at 2:00 p.m., on December 31, at the Odessa Christian Church. Rev. Melton F. Dawson conducted the services. Pallbearers were Roy Osborn, Ernest Akers, Oliver Bainbridge, Noble Davis, Cliff Looney and Leonard Henning. Burial was in Greenton Cemetery.

Edith Elizabeth Best was the daughter of Isaac and Margaret Baker Best. She was born on May 10, 1877, near Nashville, Tennessee. She moved with her family to Buckner, Missouri, in 1879, and to the Higginsville/Mayview community in 1891. She married William Luther Christy on March 5, 1901, at Lexington, Missouri.

Funeral services, for Mrs. Edith Elizabeth Christy, 84, of Odessa where held yesterday at the Christian Church in Odessa. Mrs. Christy, died Friday, after a long illness. She was born in Nashville, Tennessee and had lived in Odessa since 1919. Mrs. Christy, died Feb 8, 1959, and a son Oravl Ray died in infancy.

Survivors include three daughters: Mrs. Carl A Campblell, Bates City; Mrs. Wallace Welpman, Concordia and Mrs. John Mabry, Odessa, and eight grandchildren.

Edith Elizabeth Best Christy, daughter of Isaac and Margaret Baker Best, was born near Nashville, Tennessee on May 10, 1877. She departed this life December 29, 1961 at the age of eighty four years, seven months and nineteen days at the Warrensburg Medical Center after a long illness.

In early childhood she moved with her family to the State of Missouri.

On March 5, 1901 she was united in marriage to William Luther Christy at Lexington, Missouri. To this union were born three daughters and four sons. One son, Orval Ray, died at eighteen months.

She was preceded in death by her husband on February 8, 1959. those surviving are three daughters; Mrs. Opal Welpman of Concordia, Missouri; Mrs. Willa Belle Campbell of Bates City, Missouri; and Mrs. Myrtle Mabry of Odessa, Missouri. Three sons: Everett J. Christy of the home; Melvin Isaac Christy and Alonzo Best Christy of Odessa, Missouri. Two brothers: Joseph Best of Lexington, Missouri and John Best of Blackburn, Missouri, also eight grandchildren, many nieces and nephews and a host of friends.
