Iconic Galveston Texas landmark -
GRESHAM'S CASTLE Shown photo from 1998 of the elegant and ornate home of Walter Gresham (# 7775100) and his wife, Josephine....and their 9 children! The house was constructed between 1887 and 1893, and was designed by none other than the brilliant architect, Nicholas Clayton. The magnificent structure cost $250,000 (valued today at $5.5 million). In 1923, the house was bought by the Catholic Church and used as the residence of Bishop Christopher Byrne....which is why the building is known today as the Bishop's Palace. The house is owned today by the Galveston Historical Foundation and has been open to the public since 1963.

Added with permission- Robert Parks Feb. 11, 2018 post in the Galveston History FB Group. The Lemuel Burr (# 108280926) home located 1228 Sealy, Galveston Texas - ornate Victorian constructed 1876 by the prolific architect Nicholas Clayton. It is said he designed as many as 225 structures in Galveston, approximately 35 remain standing.
1887, the home sold to Clara Kauffman. 1890 she sold it to Capt. James P. Alvey.(# 92601596)
By the mid 1960's the house became run down & remained vacant for 5 years. 1969 new owners renovated & divided it into two "townhouses".
