George Jay was born in Bedfield, Suffolk, last child of William and Eliza Pearl Jay. He was nicknamed "Tonker". He emigrated to Canada about 1914 with three brothers and a cousin. He worked on the John Clark farm and later lived with his brother Charles and then his brother Alfred "Sam" about 1955. George never married.
