Mr. Bailey was the former owner of Bailey Bros. Laundry and Cleaning. He was a city councilman from 1988 to 1992 and a member of the Board of Directors of the Grenada County Chamber of Commerce for 20 years. He was chamber president in 1969 and again in 1979. As a member of the Chamber's Recreation and Tourism Committee for 20 years, Mr. Bailey worked with the Army Corps of Engineers for recreational facilities at Grenada Lake. Festus Bailey held the record at one time for member solicitation for the chamber of commerce, signing up 21 new members in 1980.
Mr. Bailey served as president of the Kiwanis Club and was on the board of directors for several years. He received an award for 31 years perfect attendance. He was a commissioner for the Mississippi Board and Water Safety Commission and Councilman of Grenada - Ward I, each for four years. He was also a member of First Baptist Church.
Festus Bailey was preceded in death by his wife, Marie Brister Bailey and his son, Roddie Festus Bailey.
He is survived by 2 sons and 10 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, August 22, 2008, at Garner-Harper Funeral Home Chapel at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Jim Nunnelee officiating. Interment will follow in Woodlawn Memorial Park. Visitation is today from 5 to 7 p.m. at Garner-Harper Funeral Home.

Son of Amos Festus Bailey Sr and Anna Belle Wright. Father to Roddie, Jimmy and Larry. Brother to Earl Wright Bailey, James Russell Bailey Sr, Clara Belle (Bailey) Criss, Emily (Bailey) Schultz, Edna (Bailey) Idom, Mary (Bailey) Peacock, and William Gordan Bailey.
