Lyle Kulper was born on February 16, 1925, on the family farm in Garber, Iowa, the son of John and Martha "Matt" (Hansel) Kulper. He was raised and educated in the area, and graduated from Colesburg High School in 1942.

On June 10, 1944, Lyle was united in marriage to Elizabeth Flaherty in Manchester. Seven children were born to this union. Together they farmed south of Garber until 1974 when Lyle semi-retired.

Lyle passed away at his residence near Garber on Sunday, August 17, 2008, following a brief illness. He was eighty-three years of age. Lyle was a member of the Colesburg United Methodist Church and the U.M.M. He enjoyed fishing, especially teaching his grandchildren to fish, farming, gardening, caring for his apple trees, and playing cards.

Survivors include his wife, Elizabeth of Garber; his seven children, Lee Kulper of Springfield, Georgia, Carol (Gary) Elliot of Masonville, Roger (Jennifer) Kulper of Garber, Kenneth (Marlys) Kulper of Garber, Lisa (Darrel) Streicher of Edgewood, Jeffrey Kulper of Manchester, and Mary Kulper of Colesburg; fifteen grandchildren; fifteen great-grandchildren; one sister, Lois Backes of Guttenberg, and twin brother, Lole (Betty) Kulper of Garber.

Lyle was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Cathy Wittman; and three sisters, Joyce Jaster, Dorothy Bush, and Luva Clefisch.
