Daughter of Dr. James A Cooper (1797-1883) and Elizabeth White Cooper. Her father is buried in this cemetery. Her brother, James L Cooper (1825-1862), is also buried in this cemetery. Her sister, Sarah Louisa Cooper Fletcher, is buried in Fort McCoy Cemetery in Marion Co. FL.

Mary Ann was the wife of Dr. Augustus H Mathers (1825-1914), whom she married 28 Oct 1848. During the Civil War her husband wrote many letters to her that were published in the Florida Historical Society Quarterly in Oct 1959. Included in these letters was one letter that Mary Ann wrote to him, and also included was a post script to Mary Ann written by her sister, "Lou".

She was the mother of James Cooper Mathers (1852-1904)
