Sarah Louisa Cooper Fletcher was the daughter of James A Cooper and Elizabeth White. Her father is buried in Micanopy Historic Cemetery in Alachua County as is her brother, James L Cooper; and sister, Mary Ann Cooper Mathers.
Her sister, Mary Ann, married Augustus "Gus" Mathers, who during the Civil War, was an assistant surgeon in Co. F, 4th FL Inf Regiment. Mathers and Sarah Louisa's husband, Capt. W L Fletcher, of Co. G, 4th FL Inf Regiment, spent service time together near Fernandina, FL in 1861-62. Mathers wrote letters home to his wife and in these letters that were published in the Oct 1959 Florida Historical Society Quarterly, he mentions his sister-in-law, "Lou" and his brother-in-law, "Bill" many times. In 1861 Sarah Louisa (and children) joined her husband, William, at their CSA camp and included in these annotated letters was a post script that "Lou" wrote to her sister dated 13 Nov 1861 from Way Key, Florida describing her experiences there.
Capt. Fletcher returned home from the war and died in 1888. When Sarah Louisa died twenty years later she was buried beside him in Fort McCoy Cemetery.
She was the mother of:
