Inscription: SACRED to the memory of CALEB WOODRUFF who died Feb 5th 1831 Aged 48 years 1 month & 12 days.
He was the husband of Rosannah Farrow, daughter of John Thomas and Rosannah Waters Farrow.

ROSANNAH FARROW married CALEB WOODRUFF who at the age of 45 or 50, I guess, was waylaid by two Negroes and beaten to death with clubs....Mr.WOODRUFF left 12 children on his widow's hands - eight sons and four daughters; several who were grown and married and so were not really on her hands. She married again but devoted her time to her children and maternal duties in rearing them....Nearly all of them have followed that good mother into the spirit world, except a few who preceded her. NANCY FARROW, the third daughter of THOMAS FARROW, married Dr. SAMUEL FARROW, her fisrt cousin, who was a popular physician....SAMUEL FARROW was a lawyer and married into the Herndon family of Union County, SC, an aristocratic and for those days a wealthy family; he was an able lawyer, an honest man and a true patriot.......JOHN FARROW was, I presume, the next in order to THOMAS FARROW, died in September 1843 about four months before the death of THOMAS, at the age of 87 years.....JENNIE (JANE FARROW) the only sister of my Grandmother, as far as my knowledge of the family extends, married SPENCER BOBO, who was a Baptist Minister and gave my father, after my father's marriage, a homestead of fifty acres of good land. My Grandmother Clayton (MARY FARROW) was I think the junior of the sisters. I judged this to be so from the fact that she lived till Dec. 2, 1843, and was at the time of her death 77 years of age....Comming now to the youngest of my Great Grandfather's children, I find in him my Great Uncle and your Great Grandfather WILLIAM FARROW. I will give the names of his children as i remember them...You Grandfather RICHARD FARROW must have been first, JANE, CHARLOTTE, ROSANNAH, HARRIET, NANCY, ELIZABETH, and ROBERT. JANE married Dr. DAVID WEST, CHARLOTTE married WILLIS ARNOLD; ROSANNAH married ZEBULON BRAGG; NANCY and HARRIETT married ADAIRS. ELIZABETH married THOMAS MURPHY. ROBERT FARROW married and raised two children, I think daughters. ROBERT and his wife died in Montgomery, Alabama, I think. This is about as succinct statement of the genealogical history as I know it of the Farrow side of our ancestry, and imperfect as it is, I presume there is no one now living who remembers as much about it as I have gotten into the twelve preceding pages. I woudl be glad to give you a fuller and more satisfactory account, but having to draw on my own memory alone, unaided by that of anyone else, I can only offer this contribution hoping it will afford you some pleasure to possess even so meager an account as this. True, I could give you a good many incidents in the family history that I presume would intrest you and would take pleasure in doing so, would my nerves and muscles cooperate in enabling me to write with greater celerity than is possible under existing conditions. Trustin it will be acceptable if not entirely satisfactory, it gives me great pleasure to subscribe myself. Your Loving cousin, (signed) D. B. CLAYTON, this August 1st, 1894." Source: Rev. Daniel Bragg Clayton.

Daniel Bragg Clayton was around 76 years of age when he wrote this letter in 1894. By his own statement in this letter he was ten or twelve years of age when his Aunt Jane Bobo died in 1828.

His wife Rosannah moved to Alabama. Rosannah Woodruff is buried at the Mt Zion Baptist Church in Alexandria Alabama. She moved there with her children, who are also buried in the same cemetery, after Caleb's death. The story I was told is that Caleb sold a female slave to another plantation owner and the husband and son of the female slave ambushed and killed him. I grew up in Alexandria AL and most of my relatives are buried in the same cemetery. Source: [email protected]
