Born Dec. 26, 1905 at Brownsburg, he was the son of Elias and Neva Campbell Merritt. His wife, Ruth King Merritt, preceded him in death in 1963.
Mr. Merritt had been a self-employed well drilling contractor for many years in the Brownsburg area, retiring in 1972. He was a member of Brownsburg Christian Church, Brownsburg Masonic Lodge, and was active in Boy Scout leadership in Brownsburg and Hendricks County for over 50 years. He was awarded the Silver Beaver Award for his service.
services were Saturday, Aug 22, in Matthews Mortuary, Brownsburg. Rev. Andy Simpson officiated, with burial in Brownsburg Cemetery. Surviving are son, Stanley Merritt, Brownsburg, daughter, Evelyn Buchanan, Waynesville, NC; six grandchildren and one great-grand-child.
