Last rites for DeForest Elliott Baird, 71, of Bethany were held at 2 pm Tuesday, March 5, in the Prairie Home Presbyterian church near Bethany. Burial was made in the church cemetery.
Mr.Baird was born June 16, 1885 in Shelby county,the son of John Harris and Henrietta Baird. He died at 9 pm Saturday, Mar. 2, in St. Marys hospital in Decatur, where he had been a patient for about two weeks. For many years Mr. Baird was a director of the Bethany Grain Co.
Mr.Baird was an elder of the Prairie Home Presbyterian church near Bethany. He was a member of the Bethany Masonic lodge, the Knights Templar in Mattoon and the Shrine Club. He was a charter member of the Shelby county Farm Bureau and was active for many years in 4-H club work.
He was married to Grace Garman, April 4, 1916. Surviving are his wife Grace, sons, Donald G. and John H. Baird of Decatur,Roger W. Baird of LaGrance,Paul A. Baird of Springfield, a daughter, Mrs. Mary Grace Walker of W. Southport, Maine and 12 Grandchildren.
