Clarabel F. Suttman, age 84 of Oldenburg, Indiana, died Friday, August 8, 2008, at Christ Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio. Born September 1, 1923 in Batesville, Indiana, she is the daughter of Mary (Nee: Woerst) and Ben Schoetmer. She married Herman Suttman March 24, 1945, at St. Louis Church in Batesville.
She worked in the sewing department at Hill-Rom for 20 years and this past January retired as phone operator for the Srs. of St. Francis Convent after 10 years. Clarabel had many interests and hobbies. Her greatest passion was her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Her family often joked "if you weren't one of the grandkids, you were probably at the bottom of the pecking order." She liked making and painting ceramic figures which each grandchild would receive as a keepsake. Also special to her was the Friday night card games with the family. Each Friday, the family would gather to play Hands & Feet, results kept and a trophy presented the winner at years' end. Other interests included collecting blown glass, salt and pepper shakers and she also enjoyed crocheting afghans.

She is survived by her husband Herman; daughters Nina Giesting of Oldenburg, Pam Scheele of Batesville, Brigid Ronnebaum of St. Mary's, Indiana; son Bob Suttman of San Marcos, California; sister Mary Louis Allen of Lawrenceburg, Indiana; brother Eugene Schoetmer of Oldenburg; nine grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. In addition to her parents, she is also preceded in death by her daughter Brenda Suttman; sisters Irene Fritsch, Louella Baumer and brother Charles Schoetmer.

Visitation is Monday, August 11th, from 4-8 p.m. at the funeral home, with a rosary service at 4 p.m. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, August 12th, at Holy Family Church in Oldenburg. Rev. David Kobak O.F.M. will officiate and burial will be in the church cemetery. The family requests memorials to the Srs. of St. Francis Convent.
