Inez Lavarda Johnson Defriez Jones left this earthly existence July 14, 2004. She had been living with her daughter Marva Peterson and later with her grandson Michael Peterson and his wife Janice of American Fork, UT, who provided loving care for her for several years as her health failed.

She was born January 30, 1911 in Huntington, Utah, the fifth child of J. B. Johnson and Alice Allen and spent her early years in Huntington graduating from Huntington High School.

She married Charles Defriez, November 23, 1931 in Price, Utah, and they were sealed in the Salt Lake Temple March 27, 1933. Children from this marriage were Stanley Charles (Joan); Norval J. (Ann); Klora (deceased); Marva Lou Peterson (Jim); Sheldon Marvin (deceased); Roger Allen (Diana). Her husband, Charles Defriez, was killed in a coal mining accident, March 28, 1946. She was left a widow with six small children, the youngest being four weeks old. She helped run the family farm and worked as a clerk in the local store to care for her family.

She married Glenn E. Jones March 18, 1948. He and his children, Valaine Moffitt (Jack); Larry (deceased) (Dot); Catherine Nelson (Jim); Glenna Ann Kofford (Gary) joined her family.

Lavarda was an active member of the LDS church and held many leadership positions. She was a temple ordinance worker and filled a family history mission at the age of 80.

She has outlived most of her friends but is survived by sister Madge Guymon and Enid Miglorie.

She will be missed by her family.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, July 17, 2004 in the Hillcrest 3rd Ward, 1120 North 150 West, American Fork with a viewing from 9:15 - 10:15 a.m. at the church. Burial and graveside services at 4:00 p.m. in Huntington City Cemetery.
