The Des Moines Register. Des Moines, Iowa 13 Dec. 1919, Sat.
MRS. G.D. ELLYSON, CLUBWOMAN, DIES. Resident of Des Moines 28 years; Society and Club Leader.
Alice Hubbell, wife of Gideon D. Ellyson, president of the Standard Chemical company, died yesterday morning at 8:49 o’clock at her home, 421 west Twenty-eighth street. Mrs. Ellyson has been in failing health for several years and has been practically an invalid for the last years. Her death followed a stroke of Paralysis last Sunday from which she never rallied.
Mrs. Ellyson was born in Troy, N.Y., in 1866 and located in Des MOines twenty-eight years ago. Three years later she was united in marriage to Mr. Ellyson and has occupied a prominent place in the social and club life of the city.
Mrs. Ellyson is survived by her husband and daughter, Catherine Queal Gould, who left the city on Thanksgiving night with her children John Ellyson and Catherine for Washington, D.C., to join Major Gould, who is attending the general staff college.
In the passing of Mrs. Ellyson, Des Moines has lost one of its most beloved club women, her personality having made for her a wife-spread acquaintance and friendship. During the year 1909-10 she served as president of the Des Moines Women’s club, of which for two years she was also treasurer and at the time of her death was a member of its building committee. She was also serving as auditor of the Unity circle, the largest nonsectarian club in the city, auditor of the Women’s club exchange and assistant auditor of the local biennial board of the General Federation of Women’s Clubs and was a member of the Des Moines Conversational club.
The funeral arrangements are indefinite pending word of the arrival of Mrs. Gould from Washington.
