Altoona Mirror, May 10, 1941

A lifelong resident of Carson Valley and the last survivor of the group assembled more than sixty-five years ago when Carson Valley received its present name, died at 4 o'clock Saturday afternoon at the home of a son Russell C. Clapper, at 500 First Avenue, Duncansville, where he had been bedfast for one week. Death was attributed to multiple ailments. He was born in Carson Valley on May 3, 1864, a son of George and Elizabeth (Hart) Clapper. He was united in marriage with Miss Mary Ellen Hoover on Sept. 22, 1888, who preceded him in death twenty-four years ago. He is survived by the following children: Mrs. Esther Shiffler of New Caslte, Mrs. Leora Miller of Roaring Spring, Mrs. Sarah Walters, Mrs. Edna Langham and Russell Clapper, all of Duncansville, James Clapper and David Clapper of Carson Valley and Mrs. Ruth Hoover of Cross Keys. Three daughters predeceased him. He is also survived by an 82-year-old brother, John H. Clapper of Tampico, Ill., a 94-year old sister, Mrs. Prudence Miller of 416 Fifty-eighth street, Eldorado, forty-nine grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren. Mr. Clapper followed farming virtually his entire lifetime, retiring only a few years ago, and also served as tax collector and a school director in Allegheny township for many years. He was a faithful member of the Carson Valley Church of the Brethren and served as a deacon in the church for more than thirty years. Friends are being received at the home of his son, Russell C. Clapper, 500 First avenue, Duncansville.
