Hiram Carroll Alden was born July 21, 1826 in Randolph, Massachusetts, the son of Hiram Alden and Mary Tower Alden.

On June 17, 1848 at the age of 22, he married 20-year old Julia Caroline King. He was employed as a Clerk.

In 1850, he was still employed as a Clerk, and he and his wife and 10-month old daughter Sarah were living in the household of Sarah King, his mother-in-law.

In 1860, he was employed as a boot manufacturer, and he and his wife and daughter were living with his wife's younger brother, Royal King, who was employed as a farmer.

He was a 36-year old boot cutter when he was commissioned an officer in Company D, Massachusetts 4th Infantry Regiment on Sept. 23, 1862. Mustered out on Aug. 28, 1863 at Camp Hooker, Lakeville, MA.

In 1870 he was employed as Town Clerk and Treasurer for the Town of Randolph at a salary of $5,000 per year and was living with his wife and their 20-year old daughter.

In 1880 he was 53 years old, and living with his 51-year old wife, Julia C. Alden, and 30-year old daughter, Sarah K. Porter and 47-year old son-in-law, William Porter. He was employed as a bank clerk, and his son-in-law worked in
the boot and shoe factory.

He died June 1, 1896 of diabetes at the age of 69. At the time of his death he was working as the Treasurer of the Town of Randolph.
