Uncle Gib was born the third son and fourth child of John James and Rose L. Seidl Eckart in Subiaco, Arkansas. He was only four when his mother died. His father was left to care for 5 children 10 and under. His father married Margaret Kreiner. She was a good mother to the children. Gib attended Saint Benedict's School and later Subiaco Academy. He joined the navy at the age of 18 and made a career of it. He married his wife Marcella in 1945 and finished his naval career in 1961 when he moved to Midwest City, Oklahoma to work at Tinker Air Force Base. He worked there until he retired about 1985.
He was the proud father of five children, Ron, Carol, Pat, Chris, and Gilbert, Jr (Bud). He was always the jokster and loved to laugh. He always said that he had to kick his daughter out of the house, but couldn't kick very far, she ended up next door.
Gib is survived by his wife, Marcella, daughter, Carol Eckart, sons, Ron, Pat, Chris and Buddy Eckart, brothers, Leo and Father Stephen Eckart. He was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rose Eckart, step-mother Margaret Eckart, brothers James Eckart and Al Eckart, and sister Bonnie Parque.
