GUSTINE, TX -- Samuel Boyce Armstrong, 90, passed away Wednesday, Aug. 6, 2008, at the Western Hills Nursing Home in Comanche.

Graveside funeral services on Saturday, Aug. 9, 2008, at the Union Cemetery in Gustine with military honors. He was born Aug. 3, 1918, in Ash Flats, AR, the son of the late Richard Andrew and Cora Worthington Armstrong. He married Tearesa Clark in Abilene on Dec. 20, 1941. He was a veteran of the US Army, serving in World War II as a Staff Sergeant who received the Bronze Star. He later farmed for several years at DeLeon and operated a backhoe for the Westex Clay Company in DeLeon. He retired from the Texas Highway Department and then worked as a custodian for the Forrest Oaks Nursing Home in Hamilton. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Gustine and also attended the Board Church.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, several brothers and sisters and grandchildren, Anthony Solomon and Mary Jane Armstrong.

He is survived by sons, Richard Armstrong and wife Jean of Gustine and Robert Armstrong and wife Anita of Stephenville; daughter, Doris Bates and husband James of Camden, Tenn.; a very special companion, Novis Tarter of Gustine; six grandchildren, Kimberly Walker of Malvern, AR, Delyn Mankin of Comanche, Jason Solomon of Abilene, Bucky Isbell of Whohenwald, TN, Michael Armstrong of Abilene , and Samantha Armstrong of Stephenville; 10 great-grandchildren and several brothers and sisters also survive.
