Sarah was born at Center, Arkansas on December 10, 1931 to the late Andrew and Cora (Worthington) Armstrong. She was one of ten children born into this family. At the age of 19, she moved to St. Louis, Missouri to find work and lived with her sister, Wanda Lee, at a boarding house. Sherwood Mattox moved to St. Louis from Bourbon seeking employment and lived with his sister who operated the boarding house Wanda Lee lived in. Sarah met Sherwood there and the rest is history. On September 1, 1950 they were united in marriage and to this union three children were born. They moved back to the family farm near Anthony’s Mill where Sarah became a devoted wife and mother. She was a woman of strong and enduring faith in her God, Jehovah. She was very proud of her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren as they too serve Jehovah. Sarah was one of six original members of the Sullivan congregation. Sarah was a very domestic woman and always put the interests and needs of her family first. She was also an excellent gardener and raised everything from green beans and tomatoes to roses.
She is survived by her husband Sherwood; two daughters, Kathy Mantle and Tammy Brock; one son, Joe Mattox; a sister, Bonnie Spurlock; 7 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
Graveside funeral services will be held in the Harmon Family Cemetery near Bourbon, Missouri on Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at 11:00 a.m. with Mr. Bill Harrison officiating.
