Bernard Friedrich Stutheit was born Hoben Kirchspiel (Church District) Marien Stober, Hanover, Germany, He was baptized in the home congregation in Germany.
(The family tale is that B.F. Stutheit had a red beard and according to records farmed on Silver Creek, in Johnson County, NE.) He was the 5th child of Gerhardt H. Stutheit and Meta M. (Neuhussen) Stutheit.

B.F. was married 2 times.
no. 1 was to Katharine (Katarina) Louise Hempeler, she died in CA. of T.B. and then B.F. was married the 2nd time to Sophia Louise Karoline (Karoline) (Mueller) (Meyer) nee Schulte. both wives are buried in Helena Cemetery.

He was married Nov. 7, 1855 at Clayton County, IA. and to Karoline Schulte Dec. 9, 1893, Clayton County, IA.

This was Bernarhd Friedrich Stutheit's obituary translated to English:

Bernhard Friedrich Stutheit was born Nov. 21, 1832, in Hoben Kirchspiel(Church District)Marien Stober Hannover, Germany, the third son of Gerhard Stutheit and wife nee Neuhussen.

Shortly after his birth he was presented to the Lord in Baptisim in his home congregation. In the year of 1833, his parents and the family emigrated to America and settled in the State of Ohio, where he grew to manhood, In the year 1849 he moved to Clayton County, IA. Here he married at age 23 years, Miss Katharina Hempler. To this union eleven children were born, five daughters and six sons. In the year 1866 he moved his family to Johnson County, NE. and settled on a farm he lived on the rest of his life until the Lord called him home. With hard labor, thru hard times, the Lord blessed him with earthly goods.

In the year 1888 his spouse died. which had shared his joys and sorrows.

In 1893 he remarried the widow Karoline Schulte. The Lord blessed them with one son, which was the joy of his old age.

The deceased enjoyed good health and a strong constitution until five years prior to his death, a nerve fever brought him close to his grave, but his hour had not yet come and the Lord gave him new strength. However in the following year, he did not begin with the same vigor and was more or less sickly, but his sickness could not be ascertained. After a two weeks journey, coming home his condition worsened. Infectious bronchites caused him great breathing difficulty. His family spared no concern and expenses to relieve his suffering. Until Sunday it seemed the treatment of the doctors had achieved the desired effect.

By Monday afternoon the sickness attacked him in full fury and Tuesday the 28th at 1 P.M. in the circle of his family, he passed away. I can say with comfort and faith in the Lord who has redeemed him from his sins, He departed from us. How touching it was that on Thursday he partook of Holy Communion with his family, How earnestly he was on his knees and confessed his faith and sins. He was one of the quiet ones of the congregation.

Just exactly forty years, he and a few others organized the present congregation whose well being was always in his heart. Divine Services were always refreshing to him. In the circle of his family he was always house priest. He was a loving father and always ready in showing them the way to the Lord.

Permit me to add this-It was God's Reward that such attention was given by the District at attendance of his funeral. So God often honors those who do not seek their own praise.

He attained the age of 73 years. 9 months and 8 days. The Lord who gave him a peaceful departure, grant us the same.

(This was part of the church service) The newspaper account stated he moved to Clayton County IA. in 1851, and to NE in 1866 is correct.
