Mathew Jacob Brausen, age 87, a resident of Pierz, MN, died December 18, 1999, at St. Mary's Villa in Pierz.

Mass of Christian Burial was held December 21 at St. Joseph's Church in Pierz with Fr. Ken Brenny officiating. Burial was in St. Joseph's Cemetery.

Math was born May 17, 1912, to Jacob and Frances (Wieling) Brausen near Buckman, MN. He married Adeline Schnurrer October 31, 1934, at St. Joseph's Church in Pierz and they farmed together in Agram Township for over 50 years. As a young man, Math went to Danbury, IA, each fall to hand pick corn on the Anderson farm. He was one of the first members of the Morrison County Farmers Union. He loved to bowl, play cards and dance. He was especially proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Survivors include four daughters, Betty Seelhammer and John of St. Cloud, MN, Carl Schmidt and Jerome of Little Falls, MN, Patricia Tomala and Loren of Pierz, and Jacqueline Marshik and Tom of Hillman, MN; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife Adeline on August 23, 1999; parents, Jacob and Frances; brothers, Pete, Ted, Henry and Reiny; and one sister, Alma Weiss.

Pallbearers were his grandsons, Mark Seelhammer, John Schmidt, Bill Tomala, Chad Tomala, TJ Marshik and Glen Schmidt. Honorary pallbearers were his granddaughters, Cynthia Seelhammer, Denise Shaw, Joan Smuda, Renee Taylor, Lisa Smith, Christine Estoye, Jennifer Heath, Amy Berger, Tina Weber and Janelle Schmidt.

He was a member of St. Joseph`s Catholic Church in Pierz and a former member of Farmer`s Union.Survivors include four daughters, Betty Seelhammer, St. Cloud, Carol Schmidt, Little Falls, Patricia Tomala, Pierz, Jacqueline Marshik, Hillman; 16 grandchildren; and 15 great grandchildren.His wife, a sister, Alma Weiss; four brothers, Ted, Pete, Henry, and Reiny Brausen, died earlier.Services will be 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at St. Joseph`s Catholic Church in Pierz with the Rev.
