Peter H. Bares Called By Death

Villagers and people from the country were deeply grieved this Wednesday morning when it was learned tha Peter H. Bares, a prominent businessman of this village had answered the call of death. The young man had only been ill about a week and the illness had not been considered serious until Tuesday evening when it was thought it was necessary to take him to the hospital at Little Falls. He was immediately taken to the hospital and died soon after the arrival there where he has also received the Rights of the church. Death which occurred at about 9:30 was due to a severe attack of influenza.

Peter H. Bares, son fo Mrs. Hubert Bares of this village, was born in Pierz on July 3rd, 1892 having been 32 years of age when death called him. He remained in Pierz all his life except one year which he spent in the U.S. army during the war. He was drafted into the service on July 19, 1918, and stationed at Spartenburg, N.C. A month later he went overseas in the capacity of a quartermaster sergeant in 355 Pioneer Infantry and landed at Brest, France, and later removed to Ecomoy, France. In July 1919, he was honorably discharged and returned to Pierz where he and his brother J.H. have conducted the hotel business known as Hotel Pierz, since his return from overseas.

In 1920 he was married to Miss Frances Riesgraf, who with one daughter, Audrey, survives. He is also survived by his mother; two brothers, J.H. and F.X. Bares of Pierz, and four sisters, Katherine, Marie and Loretta Bares and Mrs. Nick Meyer, all of Pierz.

The deceased was a member of the American Legion, also of Elks Lodge of Little Falls and was a member of the local fire department.

Funeral service will be held in St. Joseph's church tomorrow Friday morning at 10 o'clock. Interment will follow in local cemetery.

Peter Bares was a beloved and highly respected young man whose smile and friendly disposition will be greatly missed by hose who knew him. The Journal joins the community in extending sincere sympathy to the bereaved relatives.
