Veteran of the American Revolution. Orderly Sergeant in Capt.James Chapman's Company of New London, 5th Co, of Col.Samuel Holden Parsons' 6th Regiment. Enlisted May 8, 1775, and was at the Boston camps, and served in the siege of New York at White plains, and at New Castle.

Husband of Pamelia Fox Avery, married Dec 11,1782 at Enfield,CT.

Children: Elisha Avery, Samuel Avery, Pamelia Avery Fox, Amy Avery Rice, Almira Avery Giles, Jonathan Avery Jr, Annis Avery Hill, Amos Avery, Amanda Scott Avery Church, Elihu Avery, and Maria Avery Daniels Pike.
