Her formative years were spent in Columbia City and Whitley County where she attended Thorncreek Elementary School and Columbia City High School. On November 9, 1947 she was united in marriage to Harold Oran Baker. In 1969, she and her family moved to Meridian, Mississippi where her husband took a position as a tool and die supervisor. In 1991, she returned to Indiana to live with her daughter, Linda, and grandchildren. For the past two years, she has been a resident of Miller's Merry Manor, Inc. A homemaker, she also worked at Blue Bell Co., Columbia City, and Chamberlain Products, South Whitley. She attended the Church of God. Her memberships included Blue River Community Church and 1930 Pen Pal Club, where all of the members were born in 1930.
She is survived by six children, Linda Johnson of Columbia City; Thomas Baker of Ellettsville; Lonald "Lonnie" Wayne Baker of Fort Wayne; Ricky Eugene Baker of Philadelphia, MS; Dennis Dean Baker of Fulton, MS; Brenda Dempsey of Meridian, MS; grandchildren that were primary caregivers, Deana Trowbridge of Pierceton, Donya LaRue and David Johnson both of Columbia City and Sierra Dingus of South Carolina plus 17 more grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 2 great great grandsons. She was preceded in death by her parents; step-mother, Orpha L. Baron; husband, Harold Oran Baker; brothers, Earland and Dick Baron; sisters, Geneva May Baron and Eloise Jean Baron; grandchildren, Thomas Lee Baker, Jr., Ava Michelle Baker, Cassandra Dena Baker and Mason Storm Trowbridge.
Visitation is Sunday, February 19, 2012 from 2-6 p.m. at DeMoney-Grimes Countryside Park Funeral Home, 600 Countryside Drive, Columbia City. Funeral service will be Monday, February 20, 2012 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Curtiss Johnson officiating. Burial will follow at Nolt Cemetery, Columbia City. Memorials may be given in memory of Mrs. Baker to the donor's choice of charity. Envelopes will be available at the funeral home.
