Johann Martin Stallbaumer was born in Attenweiler, Wuerttenberg, Germany, the son of Johann Baptist and Rosina Harle Stallbaumer on May 17, 1835. He emmigrated to America in 1854, settled near Wildcat Creek (St. Benedict), Nemaha County, Kansas. He was one of a group of pioneers to build the first Catholic Church in the area in 1859. He married Mary Hubertina von Bruck July 1,1861, at St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Benedict, KS. They were the parents of 8 children. Martin died August 24,1881 at the age of 46 yrs, from complications of diabetes. He is buried in St. Mary's Cemetery, St. Benedict, KS.
