Private, U.S. Army, WWII∼Irwin J. "Jake" Brown, 85, of Tallula died Saturday, Dec. 7, 2002, at his home. He was born March 21, 1917, in Pleasant Plains, the son of Noah M. and Rose Austin Brown. He married Eula Woodrum. Mr. Brown was an Army veteran of World War II and a former mayor of Tallula. He worked at Major Appliance Sales for more than 40 years. He was a member of Tallula Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), Elks Club in Jacksonville and Clinton Lodge 19 AF&AM in Petersburg. Survivors: wife, Eula; three sons, James I. (wife, Bernice) Brown of Kansas City, Mo., and Donald L. (wife, Cathy) and Greg (wife, Pam) Brown, both of Petersburg; a daughter, Sue Ann (husband, Don) Britton of Petersburg; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren. Services: 11 a.m. Wednesday, Tallula Christian Church, the Rev. Wayne Meyer officiating. Burial: Greenwood Cemetery, Tallula. Hurley Funeral Home in Petersburg is in charge of arrangements.
