Mary Gertrude Metzger, of 225 W. Powell Blvd., Gresham, the descendant of some of Oregon's earliest settlers, died Dec. 15 in a Portland hospital. She was 92.
Mrs. Metzger was born April 30, 1870, on a farm near Gresham. she taught school in Gresham before her marriage to the late Jake G. Metzger. One of her ancestors was Daniel H. Lownsdale, an Oregon pioneer for whom Lownsdale Square in Portland is named.
Survivors include three daughters, Willa Griggs, of Fullerton, Calif., and Evelyn Burton and Mabel Ferris of Gresham; a brother, Edwin P Shattuck of New York; four grandchildren, and 14 great great grandchildren.
Service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Bateman Funeral Chapel, Gresham.
