Christine Block Hanson, seventh child of Peter and Dorothea Ringsted Block, was born Feb. 3, 1903 in Norre Kongerslev, Denmark. She passed away Friday at Parkview Haven, Deshler, Nebraska on March 31, 1995 at the age of 92 years, 1 month and 29 days.
In 1912 at the age of 9, along with three older brothers and one younger sister, she immigrated with her parents to the United States, entering through Ellis Island. Three members of the family had already, arrived, and were living near Chicago. In 1912, after a short stay, they continued on to Ruskin, Nebraska, and from there to a farm 3 miles north of Bostwick, Nebraska. She attended Sandy Knob School, where she learned to speak English, and was later confirmed in the Bethany Lutheran Church near Ruskin.
On Dec. 6, 1923, she was united in marriage to Arthur G. Hanson. They moved to a farm one mile west of Abdal, where they lived until they moved to Superior in 1963.
Chirstine was a loving mother, grandmother, and willing homemaker. She was active in the Abdal Club and the Nuckolls County Hospital Auxiliary until age and health prevented her from continuing.
Preceding her in death were her husband, Arthur G. Hanson, her parents, Peter and Dorothea Ringsted Block, four brothers, Andrew, Lawrence, Julius and Chris Block and two sisters, Karen Jensen and Gerda Nielsen.
Left to mourn her passing are one brother, Peter Block and his wife Viola of Superior; three sons and their wives, LeRoy and Mary of Fairfield Bay, Ark., Burdette and Margaret Ann of Superior, and Norman and Lucille of Denver, Colorado. Three granddaughters include Marsha of Sheridan, Wyoming, Adele of Arlington, Virginia, and Janet of Denver, Colorado. Three great granddaughters, Stephanie, Kristen and Melissa of Sheridan, Wyoming, and one great grandson, Jason of Denver, Colorado remain along with other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, April 4, 1995 at Megrue-Price Funeral Home Chapel, Superior, Nebraska with the Rev. L. Patterson Culligan officiating. Casket Bearers were, Jay Nielsen, Russell Snyder, Larry Juergens, Gary Tordrup, Ronald Utecht and Jake White. Burial was in Evergreen Cemetery near Superior, Nebraska.
