Former Resident Dies in Kansas
John B Ringle Expires at the Home of His Daughter in KansasJohn B Ringle, a former and well known resident of German township, died at the home of his daughter, Matilda Stone, near Morehead, Kansas, on January 19th, 1901, from paralysis of the heart. He had been in failing health for several years, and for some time had been almost helpless, yet when the end came it was sudden and without any previous warning. He was in usual spirits the morning he died and had just partaken of his breakfast. He then went to his bed again and when his daughter asked him if he felt relieved, with an answer in the affirmative on his lips, he departed this life. Mr Ringle was born in Starke county, Ohio, in August, 1829, migrated to this vicinity with his father in the forties, and became one of the first tillers of the soil in this locality. For many years he lived on a farm south-west of Bremen and manufactured ax handles, at which he became such an expert that he was known as "Ax Handle John." In the year 1852 he made an overland trip to California, where he remained for three years, returning via Cape Horn. He afterward moved to the west, residing in Kansas and Missouri. About three years ago he returned to Bremen and remained until about nine months ago, when he returned to Morehead, Kansas, to make his home with his daughter, and died there January 19th, at the age of seventy years and five months. Mr Ringle was twice married and became the father of eleven children, all of whom survive him. At the age of eighteen he j lined the United Brethern church, of which he was a devoted member until the end. He was loved and honored by all who came in contact with him, and was well known for his honesty and uprightness.Bremen Enquirer 1 Feb 1901
