Neeses - James A. Gartman, 69, of 2866 Ninety-Six Road, Neeses, died Friday, Oct. 3, 2003. Funeral services will be held at 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 5 at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home, with Rev. Henry Chavis officiating. Mr. Gartman was born in Neeses, a son of the late Rev. John Gartman and Dora Hutto Gartman. He was a retired Air Force Staff Sergeant and served in Vietnam. He was predeceased by a sister, Hazel Williams; brother, Dennis Gartman; nephew, Tom Gartman; and beloved dog, 'Cocoa.' Survivors include his wife of the home, Margaret Gartman; two stepdaughters and husbands, Teresa and Glenn Purvis Sr. of West Columbia and Crystal Smith of Lexington; one stepson and wife, Randy and Marlene Shirey of Prosperity; four stepgrandsons, Robert John Shirey, Kyle Shirey, Glenn Purvis Jr., and Gary Purvis; three nephews, Billy Williams of Aiken, and Archie Gartman and Bobby Williams, both of Salley; one niece, Dot Williams of West Columbia; and good friends, Thurston Hutto and Heyward Jeffcoat. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 p.m. Saturday at Culler-McAlhany Funeral Home of North and other times at the residence.
