Seaman Slinkard died in an automobile accident when returning from a rifle range at Saucier, Mississippi. Close friend, Robert J. Crocker, a gunner's mate second class, accompanied the body from Mississippi.

Member of Zalma Masonic Lodge and attended Zalma Methodist Church.

A graduate of Advance High School, he enlisted in the Navy March 8, 1943, receiving boot camp training at Camp Perry in Williamsburg, Virginia. Before becoming an instructor at Gulfport, Mississippi, he was at the naval school at Camp Lejeune in North Carolina.

Married Ida Lingle March 21, 1939 at Puxico, Missouri. Survived by his wife; daughter, Sharon; mother, Mrs. Ida Mae Slinkard; brothers, Hassel and Kerle Slinkard; sisters, Mrs. Lois Myers, Mrs. Myrtle Gray, Miss Dee Shea, Mrs. Avis Brian, Mrs. Polly Matthews, Mrs. Ruby thomas, Mrs. Opal Corbin, Mrs. Jane tucker, Mrs. Nadine Overbey and Miss Jacquelyn Slinkard.

Final rites in charge of Zalma Masonic Lodge.
Military rites in charge of Jackson American Legion.
Burial at Berrong Cemetery.
