Nicholas Quitman Purser, Jr., 88, of
Dayton, died Thursday, June 19, 2006, at
his home.N.Q. was the owner and operator of
Purser Clothing store for almost 50 years. He was a member of First United Methodist Church in Dayton for many
years. N.Q. was very involved in the community and had served as past president of The Rotary Club, a school
board member, a member of the Dayton Chamber of Commerce and a member of Brady-Williams Post 100 of the American
Legion. He was a veteran of W.W. II. N.Q. loved traveling, gardening, fishing, hunting and was an avid sports fan. He
was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.He was preceded in death by his parents, Nicholas Q. Sr. and Maude Buttram Purser; four sisters, infant Wanita Purser,
Marguerite West, Lucille Abernathy and Dorothy Downs; and one brother, Crawford Purser.Survivors include his wife of 59 years, Betty Hill Purser; three daughters, Elaine
(David) Button, Paula (Robert) Wells both
of Ooltewah, and Carol Igou of Signal
Mountain; a sister, Eloise Reed of Dayton;
seven grandchildren, Emily Stuart, Katy
and Amy Button, Nick and Tom Wells,
Caroline and Ashley Igou; several nieces
and nephews.Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Nick
and Tom Wells, nephews, Tom and Jeff
Taylor, Donnie Travis and Jeff Hill.
Funeral Services will be held Sunday at 2
p.m. in the chapel at Coulter Garrison
Funeral Home with Reverends Glenn
Moseley and J.C. Gholdston officiating.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 4
and 6 to 8 p.m. on Saturday. Burial will be in Buttram Cemetery.Coulter Garrison Funeral Home in Dayton
is in charge of arrangements.
