GREENSBORO — Mrs. Dora Elizabeth Whitt Rice, of Tower Road, Greensboro, N.C., passed away Monday, July 21, 2008, at Beacon Place.
A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Thursday, July 24, at Carraway United Methodist Church with Reverend Dianne W. Marsden presiding. A private internment will be held at Guilford Memorial Park.
Mrs. Rice was born July 5, 1914, in Greensboro, to Walter Rankin Whitt and Dora Morgan Whitt.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Tipton Rice of Vero Beach, Fla.; her brothers, Walter and George Whitt; sisters, Mae Newnam, Blanche Roberts, Frances Holland, Viola Parker, Rachel Holmes and Virginia Whitt.
Mrs. Rice is survived by nephews and caregivers, James L. Parker, Jr. (Faye) and Danny R. Parker (Joan).
Other nieces and nephews surviving are Charles Roberts, Clara Newnam, Sarah Haislip, Lenoria Nabors, Rusty Newnam, Rebecca Troy, Larry Holland, Nancy Farlow and Betty Chrismon; sister in law, Theresa Whitt.
Also surviving are special friends, Minda Stewart, Deborah H. Chenault and Karen H. Patterson.
The family request that memorials be given to Carraway United Methodist Church, 1301 Sixteenth Street, Greensboro, NC 27405.
