Reverdy Gesler Boggess was born September 8 1855, in Pawpaw Township, Marion County, WV, the eldest of nine children born to David Larkin and Margaret Ann (Haines) Boggess.
Reverdy's father was a farmer and Reverdy left home in his early twenty's to work as a farm laboror in California. He returned home to marry Sarah Ellen Hoskins then took her back to California.
While Reverdy began life in California as a farm laborer, he took many jobs before finding his niche as an upholsterer. He continued to work at this trade until he was 75, but was able to retire in his final years.
Reverdy and Sarah had three children, but only one, Frederick Alford Boggess, born December 17, 1886, survived infancy and grew to manhood.
Reverdy died on Oct 13 1940 and was buried beside his wife, Sarah, who preceded him in death 27 years before.
