ESTA LEE AMMONS METCALF

Esta Lee Ammons Metcalf, 89, of 671 Hickory Dr., Mars Hill, N.C. died Monday, July 21, 2008, at Madison Manor Nursing Center.

She was a very loving and Christian mother, and avid quilter and crotchetier. She was the daughter of the late Ralph and Sarah Ingle Ammons and was retired from Mars Hill College Cafeteria after 25 years of service. She was a member of Little Ivy Baptist Church for the past 45 years.

In addition to her parents she was also preceded in death by her husband, Zade Metcalf; a daughter, Joyce Lucille Metcalf; sisters, Edna Murray, Zerilda Peek and Fannie Mae Ammons; brothers, Otto, R.J., Edward and Arthur Ammons.

She was survived by daughters, Jeanette Gwinup, Louise Elkins and husband, Bobby, and Wanda Boone and husband, Lester, all of Mars Hill; brothers, Rev. Wayne Ammons and wife, Brenda, Roscoe Ammons and wife, Bobbie Jo, all of Mars Hill; granddaughters, Tina Devore, Kim Freeman, Debbie Miller, Denise Griffin and Katrina Boone; 10 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral service was held 2 p.m. Thursday, July 24, 2008 at Robbie Capps Memorial Chapel of Blue Ridge Funeral Service. The Revs. Billy Murray and Stanley Peek officiated. Burial was in Little Ivy Baptist Church Cemetery.
