J. Frank Coffey

James Frank Coffey, 70, of Shelbyville died Friday, Jan. 11, 2008, at Decatur County Memorial Hospital in Greensburg.

Born Oct. 27, 1937, in Cincinnati, Ohio, he was the son of Richard Gatewood and Marie Etna (Johnson) Coffey. He married Sandra D. Bright in October of 1985, and she survives.

Other survivors include his daughters, Stephanie Brooks of Colorado, Corrina (husband, Bill) Lay of Shelbyville and Angelique (husband, Terry) Randall of Pittsboro; sons, Jason (wife, Emily) Coffey of Shelbyville and James (wife, Beth) Coffey of Bloomington; sister, Ruth (husband, Robert) Bayne of Shelbyville; brother, Gus Coffey of Shelbyville; and 13 grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents; son, Sean Coffey; brothers, Carthel Coffey and Richard Coffey Jr.; sister, Eulena Campbell; and sister-in-law, Joan Coffey.

Mr. Coffey had lived in Shelbyville for 55 years. He previously lived in Cincinnati.

He was a driver with Medi-Cab in Greensburg. He also had been an entrepreneur and had been the secretary and manager of the Eagles Lodge for nine years.

Mr. Coffey was a veteran of the U.S. Coast Guard.

He graduated from Shelbyville High School.

Mr. Coffey was a member of Hope's Point Baptist Church and attended First United Methodist Church.

He was a lifetime member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and a member of the American Legion and Eagles Lodge.

Mr. Coffey was a friend to all and inspiration to others, while battling his own illness.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home, with the Revs. Ed Mohr and Robert Campbell officiating.

Burial will be in Winchester Cemetery, in Shelby County, with military rites conducted by local veterans organizations.

Memorial contributions may be made to the donor's choice, in care of Glenn E. George & Son Funeral Home, 437 Amos Road, Shelbyville, IN 46176.
