IN MEMORIAM

Mrs. Ameliler Rogers departed this life Friday morning, December 24, 1897, at her home three miles east o fWyoming, after two weeks illness, terminating in pneumonia. She was 82 years, 4 months and 6 days old.

Mrs. Rogers, whose maiden name was Evans, was born in Berkley county, Virginia, March 17, 1915. She was one of a family of 11 children. One sister, Mrs. Harden, and two brothers survive her. She came to Illinois in December, 1838, and was married on Dec 19, 1844 to Henry M. Rogers, who died Sept. 18, 1878. Six children were born to them, one of whom died in childhood. One son and four daughters survive her.

Mr. and Mrs. Rogers settled on the present homestead in 1857, building up a large farm and a handsome competence. Mrs. Rogers was a home maker as well as a housekeeper. Economical, industrious, and of strict integrity, while free from any pretentious of extravagant habits, her life was pure, lovable and beautiful. Her children's strong and undying affection for her speaks loudly in her priase. She was converted to Christ at 18 years of age, and joined the M.E. church at Princeville in 1842. Later on in life she joined the Valley M.E church, remaining a member of it until called to come up higher. The passing away of Mrs. Rogers was that of a peaceful, triumphant death.
