John Paul Lucas

John Paul Lucas, 74, of Dugger, passed away Tuesday April 3, 2001, at 1:05 a.m. at his residence. He was born in Sullivan County, Indiana, February 9, 1927, to Noble and Ruby Watt Lucas. He was a World War II veteran, retired from Universal Mine in Clinton, and a member of the American Legion in Dugger.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Townsley Lucas in 1971; and one brother, Morris Lucas.

He is survived by his wife, Lou Ashcraft Lucas; two sons, Ronnie Lucas and wife Cindy of Sullivan, and Randy Lucas and wife Karen of Lyons; two daughters, Jeanne Smith and husband Gary of Dugger, and Lori Lucas of Linton; one sister, Doris Smith of Bicknell; and seven grandchildren, Delaney Lucas, Courtney, Jonathan, Gabrielle, and Isaac Smith, and Bobby and Ross Lucas.

Funeral services will be Thursday, April 5, 2001, at 11 a.m. at the Newkirk Funeral Home in Dugger with Brother Nick Moore and Rev. John Booker officiating. Burial is in the Mt. Moriah Cemetery near Dugger. Friends may call at the funeral home after 5 p.m. Wednesday.

He was born Feb. 9, 1927, in Sullivan County to Noble and Ruby Watt Lucas.

The World War II veteran and member of the Dugger American Legion was retired from Universal Mine, Clinton.

He was preceded in death by his first wife, Mildred Townsley Lucas, who died in 1971; and one brother, Morris Lucas.

Survivors include his wife, Lou Ashcraft Lucas; two sons, Ronnie Lucas, Sullivan, and Randy Lucas, Lyons; two daughters, Jeanne Smith, Dugger, and Lori Lucas, Linton; one sister, Doris Smith, Bicknell; and seven grandchildren.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Thursday at Newkirk Funeral Home, Dugger, with brother Nick Moore and the Rev. John Booker officiating. Burial will be in Mt. Moriah Cemetery, Dugger. Friends may call after 5 p.m. Wednesday.
