Services were held Monday, July 21, at Slininger-Rossow Funeral Home in Jefferson for Harley V. Wood, 92, of Jefferson.

The Rev Mary Shultz of the Scranton and Greenbriar United Methodist Churches officiated. Debra McGinn was soloist with Monica McGregor as accompanist. Honorary casket bearers were Mark A. Ott, Wendell Hoskins and John Redfern.

Casket bearers were Steve Toyne, Davd B. Wood, Dennis Adkins, Gail Monthei, Larry McCormick and Dean W. Adkins. Interment was in Jefferson Cemetery.

Harley Victor Wood was born Jan. 20, 1911, on a farm seven miles north of Jefferson. He was the son of E. Byrd Wood and Olive Peacock Wood.

Harley served the National Guard for two years before graduating from Jefferson High School in 1930.

Harley was united in marriage to Esther Johnson on July 3, 1937, in Fort Dodge. The couple farmed for 29 years in the Lanesboro, Glidden, Lake City and Jefferson areas. In 1968, Harley and Esther moved into Jefferson, at which time Harley worked as a maintenance engineer for Woodward State Hospital. Harley retired in 1978.

Harley belonged to the Scottish Rite in Des Moines and was a member of Za-Ga-Zig Shrine. He was a 50-year member of Masonic Lodge #369 A.F. & A.M. (Blue Lodge) in Glidden.

Harley died July 18, 2003, at St Anthony Regional Hospital in Carroll. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Alta Mantz, Irene Adkins and Vera Johnson; two brothers, Walter Wood and Floyd Wood; and a grandson Clark Campos.

He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Esther, his daughter Sherry Bodden of Des Moines; his son Carroll Wood of Sigourney; his sister Vava Monthei of Rippey; his brother Lyle Wood of Paradise, CA; three grandchildren, Kimberly Jacobs of Des Moines, Braedi Schaefer of Des Moines, and David Wood of Longview, TX; and four great-grandchildren, Aubrey Tyson of London, England, Nicole Jacobs of Washington, DC, and Breanne Schaefer and Mackenzie Schaefer, both of Des Moines.
