Henry Frederick Wiest, a potter for more than a half century when the art was done by hand, died at his home, 3459 Spottswood, at 11:35 last night. He Was 85.

As a boy of 14 Mr. Wiest started out in the pottery trade at Alton, Ill., his native home. Later he moved to Kentucky. Until about 20 years ago he had a pottery business at Jackson, Tenn.

On his arrival in Memphis he was employed by Southern Railway, where he served as storekeeper for 18 years. He retired a year ago.

Early in February he suffered the heart ailment which brought death.

He was a member of St. Luke's Methodist Church and Knights of Pythias. He was with the latter organization 40 years.

He leaves six children, Miss Mary and James H. Wiest, Memphis, Mrs. M. G.. Hodges, Henderson, Tenn., Mrs. Cora D1smukes, Pinson, Tenn., Charles A. Wiest, Eagle Grove, Iowa, and Mrs. Amelia May Jones, Jackson, Tenn., and, two sisters, Mrs. Sam Spurgin, Bunker Hill, Ill., and Mrs. Emma Holloway, Quincy, Ill.

Funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. tomorrow at Cole-Wilson Funeral Home. Burial will be in Memorial Park.
