Mr. Edward Lewis "Jack" Jenkins, 72, of Magnolia Drive, Morganton, N.C., entered eternity on Wednesday, July 16, 2008, while at Britthaven Nursing Home after a period of declining health.
He was born on March 8, 1936, in Burke County, a son of the late Lewis Pinkney Jenkins and Ethel Fullwood Jenkins.
He was a U.S. Army veteran, a member of Mt. Zion Baptist Church and he retired from employment with the North Carolina School for the Deaf where he worked as a cook for 19 years.
Survivors include his step-mother, Elizabeth Connelly Jenkins; sisters, Mary Thomas and her husband, Tommy, all of Morganton, Andrea Summers and her husband, Haywood, of Glen Alpine, Amenda Jenks Bullock of Raleigh and Carolyn Suddreth of Mississippi; brothers, Bruce Steele of Granite Falls, James Connelly of Morganton and Wilbert Lee Connelly and his wife, Patti, of Valdese; an aunt, Ella Mae Wilkins of Morganton; sister-in-law, Mary Ruth Jenkins of Morganton; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, other relatives and friends.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Jimmy Lynn Jenkins, Arion Lewis Jenkins and Dwight Austin Connelly.
Graveside services will be held at Fullwood Family Cemetery.
