Robert Henry Smith Dies at Calhoun Georgia -------------- Mr. Robert Henry Smith of 602 Redbud Road, Calhoun, Ga. died at his home of double pneumonia on Friday, January 17th and was brought to Morganton Saturday for burial, it being his native home. Mr. Smith is well known here, and is the son of the late J.(Jacob) F. Smith, a pioneer of Fannin County, having lived here for years before the war between the states, and was a Confederate soldier serving under Gen. Robert E. Lee, and many other noted Southern Generals and came back here to live the remainder of his life. (this speaks of Jacob F. Smith) Mr. Henry Smith was born in Morganton January 19, 1868 and was reared here. In 1887 he married Nettie (Phinetta) Bailey and to this union were born fourteen children, ten girls and one boy of whom are living.They lived here for 31 years. Mrs Nettie Bailey Smith died May 28, 1923 and on January 11, 1927 he was married to Miss Martha Chastain of Cartecay, Ga. Four children were born to them, two of whom are now living.
Those surviving now are: Mrs. S. L. (Samuel Lester)Evans, Adairsville, Ga.; Mrs Elisha Wright; Mrs. J. R. (James Richard)Panter; Mrs. (Walter)Rufus Panter; Mrs. Othella Bolding (Thomas Clark Boling); and Miss Angie Smith of Copperhill, Tenn., and Mrs G. B.(Guy Vivian)Pickard, Cave, Ga., Mrs. Maud (Uldric Paul) Pickard, Mrs. Eunice Smallwood and L. B.(Lorne Bunyan John) Smith of Perry, Ga. and Mrs. Pauline (Grover W.) Hale of Calhoun, Ga., also his widow and Robert Lee and Geraldine of Calhoun, Ga. Three brothers and one sister, Messrs A. D. (Andrew Daniel) Smith and E. B.(E. Bartow)Smith of Morganton and Arthur Smith whose address is unknown and Martha Bennett, Crummies, Ky. Thirty grandchildren and eighteen great-grand children. The pall bearers were nephews Walter, Wayne, Wendel Panter, Clinton and Raymond Smith and Poley Evans. Funeral services were held in the Morganton Baptist Church Sunday afternoon at one P.M., by Rev. J.L. Pinson, Pastor of Union Grove Church near Calhoun, Ga., and assisted by Rev. John E. Cook of Hemp. E.L. Jackson &son of Calhoun, Funeral Directors were in charge.

Smith born in 1815 North Carolina. He married Mary Unknown abt. 1844-1845 in Gilmer Co. or Fannin Co., Georgia. George and Mary had the following known children: Jacob F. b. Oct. 1845 David W. b. 1850 Lewis C. b. May 1852 John A. b. 1855 William H. b. May 1858 These all all thought to be born in Fannin or Gilmer Co., Georgia.
