In Broadfoot's 'Confederate Military History, Vol. XIV', he states:
W. P. George, M. D., a member of the staff of General Cook, commanding the Arkansas division, United Confederate Veterans, was born in Barry county, Mo., in 1847. Despite his youth, he entered the Confederate service in 1862, under General Price, and served with Gen. M. M. Parson's brigade in the battles of Pleasant Hill and Jenkins' Ferry, and various minor engagements. After the close of the war he returned to Missouri, began the study of medicine at Cassville, came to Berryville, Ark., in 1868, and was graduated in medicine at the St. Louis medical college in 1875. He has enjoyed a lucrative practice and is one of the leading citizens of Berryville.
