Alfred Tennyson Vaughn, age 84. After walking with the Lord Jesus Christ faithfully all his life, Al peacefully left this earth to be with his Savior on July 25, 1999 following a six-month fight with cancer.

Al touched many hearts with his writings and poetry, Sunday School teaching, work with downtown missions in Seattle, his wry sense of humor and story-telling and his living example of Christian love and hospitality. His family and friends are blessed with this legacy of faith.

Al was born in Entiat on Oct. 18, 1914 to the pioneer family of Joseph and Eva Vaughn, the youngest of 12 children. He graduated from Entiat High School in 1933. Al served in the Army during W.W. II and the Korean War in the Alaska Communications System stationed in Juneau, Nome, Adak, Kodiak and many other assignments throughout Alaska. He served our country for 20 years in the Army, retiring in 1959. He worked in communications for the Washington State Patrol and then The Boeing Company until his second retirement in 1971. He enjoyed many hobbies including writing poetry, playing the musical saw and operating amateur (ham) radios. Al always began each day with prayer and devotional readings to grow in his relationship with Christ.

After Jesus, Al's first love was his beautiful bride, Naomi Eileen Herzog. Their 55-year marriage produced four children: Wesley (Patty) Vaughn of Altavista, VA; Roberta (Larry) Culberson of Stockbridge, GA; Marie (Greg) Dusing of Poland, IN: and MariLyn (Joe) Sabo of Bothell. He was "Grandpa" to 14 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren and to many others whom he opened his heart to. Although he was preceded in death by his parents and all his siblings, we rejoice in knowing that today they are meeting once again in Heaven.

A celebration of Al's life is planned for 3 p.m. on Saturday, July 31, 1999 at Fairview Church of God, 844 NE 78th Street (78th & Roosevelt Way) in Seattle, WA 98115. Graveside services will follow at 1 p.m. on Monday, Aug. 2, 1999 at the family plot in Entiat.

Contributions may be made in Al's memory to his church home, Fairview Church of God.
