Birth date calculated from dates on stone. Not sure if he was born in Ohio or Indiana.

He was married to Margaret Jane McCann on March 29, 1848 in Lebanon, Boone County, Indiana

They moved to Somer Township, Champaign County, Illinois in October, 1856.

On December 21, 1863, a landowner, John Thomas, dedicated a plot of ground on the east side of the track to be used as a townsite for a town to be named Thomasboro. This plot was recorded in 1863. The original site consisted of 7 blocks of lots, allowing for streets and alleys. In spite of the fact that the ground of the site was low and marshy, constrution of a town in a corn field started."

John and Margaret Thomas moved to Polk County, Neb. around 1883 and lived in Osceola, Neb in 1898.

It is said that he died from being ran over by a run-away horse and buggy.
