Mildred Mae Thomson was born in Williamsburg County, SC. After high school she moved to Charleston and worked for a short time at the American Tobacco Company, and later worked at the Charleston Naval Yard as a typist. She was fairly short in statue, approximately 5'3" tall, and slender. She was thrifty and wise with her money, saving and investing. She owned several small rental houses in North Charleston which she stowed away for retirement. Essie joined her in Charleston, and then Oscar. For the rest of her father's life, Oscar lived with Mildred and she took care of him.

Mildred fell in love with John A. Jessen, a catholic, who would not give up his faith to marry Mildred, so they remained in a perpetual courting relationship until Johnny's death.

Mildred never had children of her own, but all the nieces and nephews loved "Aunt Mimi" and her gentle nature. We were amused at her compulsive hand washing and cleanliness and seeming inability to make up her mind about things.

She generously took in several family members over the years without recompense to help them get on their feet. She never talked ill of anyone and was generous in love and in helping others.

She was smart with money and managed her own investments as well as her father's after he became too aged to h sorely miseedandle his own affairs.

Mildred will always be sorely missed by all her remaining nieces and nephews.
